Changes have different causes
Most breast changes are not cancer. However, a new lump, unexpected nipple discharge or a change in the skin should be assessed.
Examination and imaging
Symptoms and personal and family history are reviewed alongside an examination. Mammography, ultrasound or other investigations may be requested when appropriate.
Deciding the next step
Some findings need follow-up, while others require a tissue sample. Decisions about monitoring and treatment depend on the imaging and any pathology results.
